Lilypaw padded back over to the fresh-kill pile, frowning as she got done bringing food to the elders. They were always so bitter, and she just couldn't understand why. Shaking the thought from her mind, Lilypaw grabbed a water vole from the pile, walked over to the entrance of the apprentice den, and began eating. She glanced up every few minutes, hoping to see her mentor coming back with more food. They had been running low.
Lilypaw sighed as the vole was finished quickly. She didn't dare go for seconds, who knew what the senior warriors would say to her about that? Even though it was newleaf and there was plenty of prey running around the forest. She rested her head on her paws and looked around lazily.
She began cleaning her paws, pulling dirt and leaves away from the pads. It was still early - maybe Crowfur would come back and they could have a training session today. Lilypaw would enjoy that. She liked training.

Crowfur padded toward the camp entrance with a water vole and a small fish in his jaws. His muzzle was in a cringe for two reasons. One, he had a vole in his jaws, and two, he was coming back with little prey. How was he supposed to impress his leader with this pitiful display?
He pushed his way through the entrance with his head lowered. He sighed as he made his way to the fresh-kill pile, and tossed the in. He was so bummed that he didn't even bother taking any for himself; though he was almost starving. It took Crowfur a few seconds to realize that his apprentice, Lilypaw, was almost right next to him.
"So, you want to train, or something?" Even in Crowfur's mood couldn't stop himself from asking her. He knew that she always wanted to train- which was a good thing. It meant that she had what it takes to become a warrior.

"So you want to train, or something?" Lilypaw heard. She popped her head up and saw her mentor, Crowfur standing there. She meowed loudly an enthusiastic "Yes!!" She jumped to her feet and stretched up to put her paws up in the air. "I've been working on my balance, see?" Because Lilypaw was so clumsy, she had to.
Lilypaw put her forepaws on the ground and flexed her nails into the ground. "Don't you want some food first, Crowfur?" she asked brightly, looking at the fresh-kill pile. She wondered why he hadn't grabbed anything yet. He looked hungry.

Crowfur flicked his tail in amusement. "I'm glad you've been practicing on your own, Lilypaw." He sat down and started to click his chest with long strokes. He was waisting time. He really wished that he had not have asked Lilypaw to train, today. He really wasn't in the mood. Not now, anyway.
He sighed and looked up at her, and he almost cringed. Lilypaw was taller than he was. Crowfur looked away. Now even my apprentice is taller than me. He tried his hardest not to spit as he looked back at her.
"No- no, I'm not hung-" He was interrupted with his stomach growling. Crowfur clicked his ears in embarrassment. "I just don't feel like eating right now." He replied. "So, you 'wanna train or not?" He blurted out- changing the subject.

Lilypaw's eyes darkened a little as her mentor tried to lie to her about being hungry. "You're hungry...You should eat, Crowfur," she mewed, concerned about him. She wanted to train, but she wanted him to eat first. What if Fireclan just burst in through the entrance? He wouldn't have his strength.
Lilypaw grabbed a thrush from the pile and dropped it uncerimoniously in front of her mentor. She nudged it at him with her nose and gave him a hard look. "Eat.." It was times like this when she felt more like the mentor than the apprentice.

Crowfur let his eyes narrow as he turned his head away from her. It made him seem arrogant and stuck-up, but he did it anyway. He flicked his bristling tail as he replied, "No, I won't eat because I've hardly brought back any prey. I can't eat later, once I've hunted again." If Lilypaw kept on prodding him like this, he'd make her go feed the elders instead of training. Or something worse, like changing the elders bedding.
Crowfur laid his ears back. "Put that back and stop acting like a mentor. I am your mentor, and you will do what I say." StarClan, was she sure bossy. That could be both a bad, and good quality. He couldn't help but lighten up his tone- Crowfur wasn't able to be mad at Lilypaw for very long. "Well, I will eat when we get back- how's that?" he asked her softly as he touched her ear with his tail tip.
